Welcome to Beech and Willow…
‘…The nursery is thoughtfully laid out, well resourced with high quality toys and equipment, rich with symbols, signs, letters and numbers and fully accessible to all children. The vibrant provision both inside and outside reflects the diversity of the local community and the children that attend and takes full account of their individual welfare and developmental needs’. (OFSTED, 2009)
Our nursery school provides high quality learning and care for 3 and 4 year olds.
Each child has an entitlement to 15 hours a week. In addition, we provide paid wrap-a-round sessions for working parents. Extra hours and support for children with additional needs, or children from families experiencing difficulties at home are also provided.
Coming to nursery school gives children a tremendous opportunity to make relationships outside of their family, sharing and working with other children. They develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes to equip them for life in a changing world, as well as important personal qualities such as resilience, independence and self-esteem.
During each session there are opportunities for children to engage in self-chosen learning and with group activities planned by the teacher and nursery nurses.
To ensure that starting nursery is a happy experience for children and parents, staff carefully consider each child’s disposition during the settling-in period. This may mean that some children need a longer induction period before they are ready to stay for the hours without their parent or carer.
We visit all children at home before they start nursery. This gives an opportunity for parents to talk about their child so that we can plan for their learning needs. Each child has their own key worker who records their learning and development and builds a special relationship with the whole family.
